TWO teenagers were attacked by a gang in Newport, leaving one with a gash on his head which went down to his skull, a court heard.

Daniel O’Brien and friend Daniel Moores were both attacked following an under-age club night at Delilah’s in the city centre on October 28, 2010, Newport Crown Court heard.

Karim Barton, of Burrium Gate, Usk, and Ellya Andoun, of Christchurch Road, Newport, both 18, are on trial accused of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH), an alternative charge of unlawful wounding, attempted GBH and violent disorder.

Barton is also accused of occasioning actual bodily harm.

Andoun has pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and affray, as opposed to violent disorder, but the pair deny the rest of the charges.

Jurors heard Mr O’Brien and Mr Moores, who were both 17 at the time, left Delilah’s at around 11pm when they were approached by a group of lads, one of whom they kne was Karim.

Prosecutor Peter Davies said Andoun grabbed Mr O’Brien and took him to the ground before the gang kicked him in the face.

Doormen stopped the attack and took Mr O’Brien and Mr Moores inside the club to clean them up.

About ten minutes later, the pair were let out of the back door and as they walked up the High Street, they encountered the same group.

Again, Andoun threw Mr O’Brien to the floor, where he was kicked and stamped on. When Mr Moores tried to intervene, he was pulled away by Barton before being punched four or five times in the face. After the attack, the group left.

Both teens were taken to Newport’s Royal Gwent Hospital.

Mr O’Brien had a 4-5cm wound on his forehead which penetrated to his skull, as well as bruising and swelling to his head.

Mr Moores suffered soreness to the right side of his face, blurred vision in his left eye and a bruised left eye.
