A CHARITY set up in the memory of an Abergavenny soldier has raised another £30,000.

Welsh Warrior The Richard Hunt Foundation has added this to the £100,000 it had already raised since the charity was set up shortly after Private Richard Hunt’s death in 2009.

A memorial to Pte Hunt, made by his comrades on the Afghanistan front line shortly after his death, was recently returned to his family.

Pte Hunt’s mother Hazel Hunt gave examples of how the charity has already helped Welsh service personnel and their families.

This included helping two veterans to receive post-traumatic stress treatment and to buy cars for two other veterans suffering from the illness.

The charity has also helped buy a new cooker for a veteran, paid towards a veteran’s fuel expenses and towards the training of a veteran running this year’s London Marathon in aid of Welsh Warrior.

The charity recently received £1,000 from Pte Hunt’s friends in A company Second Battalion Royal Welsh, after they completed a 160-mile marathon from London to Cardiff and a £1,000 from Malpas Townswomen’s Guild, which had chosen it as its charity of the year.

Mrs Hunt said: “Even with the recession, people still want to give. It’s amazing.”
