NEWPORT’S Rougemont School has been praised for its excellent performance in its latest Estyn inspection.

The private school, on Malpas Road, had its current performance and prospects for improvement described as “excellent” by the Welsh schools inspection body following a visit in November last year – the top performance level on Estyn’s four-point scale.

Inspectors said all pupils at the school, which caters for 618 children from age three to 18, make good progress and students’ behaviour is “exemplary”.

The Estyn report released last week added that most pupils get excellent results in exams at key stage four and sixth form, and the school has an “excellent learning environment,” with well-maintained buildings, grounds, spacious classrooms, and specialist teaching areas.

Inspectors also said Rougemont has excellent prospects to continue improving because of a clear leadership team, who have very high expectations of their pupils.

Governors were praised for knowing the school very well, and challenging it to make improvements.

Rougemont pupils were also said to make “outstanding” achievements through the school’s excellent use of its resources.
