IT may well be that we never discover what happened to cause the tragic death of former Wales football manager Gary Speed.
Yesterday, a coroner recorded a narrative verdict at the inquest into Mr Speed’s death and said he may have “nodded off" while sitting with cable around his neck on the stairs in his garage.
It was also revealed that he had some sort of disagreement with his wife on the night it happened.
What has also become clear is that Mr Speed never gave any indication to friends that he may take his own life, other than one text to his wife that he “talked in terms of taking his life’’.
The world of football lost an extremely talented man that night.
He took Wales from the brink of obscurity to a team that was becoming credible on a world level.
We have to accept that what happened in the run-up to his death will nownever be more than speculation and just remember Gary Speed for the great player he was and the potentially top football manager he might have become.
