THE UK’s youngest undertaker Rachael Ryan will be swapping her top hat and tails for a ballgown as she hosts a charity event.

Miss Ryan, 16, who became a director in family business Michael G Ryan Son and Daughters Funeral Directors last year, is organising the ball in aid of the Joshua Foundation.

The charity provides experiences and holidays for children suffering from terminal cancer and their families.

Miss Ryan is aiming to raise at least £3,000 over the next year for the charity, which will allow her to take part in the ‘Oz Experience’.

This is a programme organised by the charity which sees young people travel to Australia and help out with conservation projects.

Miss Ryan, a former pupil at St Joseph’s RC High School, heard about the programme through the school.

She said: “I am hoping to arrange a number of different events over the coming year to try to reach my target.”

The ball, which is open to any age, will be held on March 17 at Newport Athletic Club Bisley Stand, starting at 7pm.

Tickets are £15 and are available by contacting Miss Ryan on 07970 133556.
