RESIDENTS are fighting to stop their village being "spoiled" by proposals to build 1,100 houses on a nearby greenfield site.
Llanwern village is the preferred site for a multi-million pound scheme by developers Gallagher consisting of the homes plus a new primary school and village hall.

In a show of hands at the beginning of the meeting, all but one person indicated they were against the development, which would be built on 134 acres of privately-owned land on either side of Cot Hill at the top end of the village.
Fears of flooding, drainage and traffic problems were raised by residents.
