HAIRDRESSERS from Coleg Gwent showed off their eye for style at the Ebbw Vale campus’s annual hair show.

More than 40 hairdressing students showcased their creativity by styling models for the catwalk with creations based around themes including masquerade ball, avant garde, the future, and hit film The Grinch.

Other creations were inspired by an eagle’s nest and a lightning bolt.

Costumes for the catwalk show included a dress made of fake money and a waistcoat crafted from paper, while beauty therapy students helped to complete the looks by doing make up for the models.

Music students and staff provided entertainment, lighting and sound, and the show was filmed by the college’s media students.

Michelle Williams, 28, from Goytre, will finish her level 3 hairdressing course in the summer.

She said: “The show was a great opportunity for us to really showcase our creative side and a good practical opportunity to express our interpretations of the themes. It was great fun and a brilliant feeling to see our creations on the catwalk.”

Tutor Helena Bassett said students showed how well they can work under pressure, which is good preparation for when they go on to work in the industry.

She added: “The costumes were just as innovative as the hairstyles which ranged from flamboyant hair pieces to chic, stylish cuts.”

Next year’s show will be held in Ebbw Vale.
