PUPILS at a Newport school enjoyed a taste of Georgia recently with a visit from the Newport Kutaisi Twinning Association.

The year six students at Malpas Court Primary School took part in a series of workshops led by members of the Association.

The school's chairman of governors, David Mayer, led a workshop on Georgia's national dish which allowed pupils to see a batch of khachapuri being made before getting to taste the dish.

Each group of pupils produced artwork inspired by photographs of the religious icons found in the Orthodox churches in Georgia.

Katie Rock, who was born in Kutaisi and now lives in Newport, taught the students about the letters of the Georgian alphabet while Claire Watkins told the students about where Georgia can be found on a map and spoke about her experience of visiting the country a few years ago.

The school, which has built successful links with schools in India in the past, is now hoping to develop links with a school in Kutaisi.
