A GWENT man who stole £16,500 from a fund set up to help his son fight a degenerative disease pleaded guilty to charges of drunk and disorderly and resisting arrest yesterday.

Julian Emms, 46, of Castle Lodge Close, Caldicot, appeared at Caerphilly Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly at Pill Lane, Caldicot on December 16 2010.

He also pleaded guilty to two further charges of resisting the arrest of PC Huw Oliver and PC Michael Price.

Emms will be sentenced for these offences on April 4 after he is sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court for fraud by abuse of position.

He was found guilty of taking £16,500 from a fund set up to help his 20-year-old son Michael receive treatment for motor neurone disease.

The cash was raised for Michael, from Caerwent, to undergo pioneering stem cell treatment in China with stem cells donated by his baby halfbrother Rhys.

But, despite having the procedure in December 2007, Michael died on April 11 2011, aged 23. The money was never recovered and Emms will be sentenced for this tomorrow.
