THE funeral of a Newport biker who died following a crash will take place next week.

Nicholas Chetnik, 53, of Bassaleg, died of his injuries at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, on March 5 after an incident on Caerphilly Road, Bassaleg, at around 10.30pm on March 3.

Mr Chetnik's family described him as a "reserved" and "loyal" man who led a quiet life. Following his death, his sister Melanie Muldownie said Mr Chetnik left instructions for his organs to be donated in the event of his death.

Although he lived with a condition called Marfan Syndrome, which causes sufferers to be disproportionately tall and thin, with unusually long arms and legs compared to their body, his family said he never allowed it to impact on his life.

Mr Chetnik's funeral will be held at St Phillips Church, Jenkins Street, Newport, at 12pm on March 20, followed by cremation at the Greater Gwent Crematorium at 1pm.

Immediate family flowers only, by donations can be made to the Marfan Association UK, care of Michael G Ryan Son and Daughters, 106-108 Malpas Road, Newport.
