A MONMOUTHSHIRE man was sentenced to 150 hours of unpaid work and ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for the next five years after admitting 19 counts of making indecent images of children.

Mark Jayne, 32, of Monmouth Road, Raglan, had also pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing indecent images of children at an earlier hearing on February 17.

Newport Crown Court heard a total of 1,034 images were recovered during the investigation which covered all levels of one to five, five being the worst level.

Prosecuting, Jason Howells said officers first arrested Jayne on February 19 last year and seized all his computer devices.

Mr Howells said across the three computer devices seized, 196 images found were at level one, 71 were at level two, 77 at level three, 168 were at level four and five were at level five.

Jayne admitted using a username found by police to access a website.

During the investigation of the equipment and while Jayne was on bail, police recovered further images which were being downloaded by the defendant.

Jayne was again arrested on December 15 and admitted downloading all the images.

Defending, Laurence Jones said Jayne was a man of previous good character who had told police that this was something that had gone on over ten years.

Mr Jones said this timescale coincided with Jayne’s mother’s death.

He said: “He told police he felt it was disgusting and was so ashamed and sorry but did not know where to turn to.”

He added that each image had been viewed but then immediately deleted and that Jayne was since seeking help.

Judge Philip Richards also sentenced Jayne to undertake a 36-month rehabilitation course and a 36-month supervision order.

He imposed a sexual offences prevention order on Jayne for the next five years, which includes banning Jayne from living with anyone under the age of 18 unless approved by social services.

Jayne was also disqualified from working with children.
