WANTED: A single, fun-loving woman, aged 60 or over to spend the rest of her life on a sun-drenched island with one of Gwent’s greatest sporting stars.

It may sound like a followup to Gavin Henson’s television dating show The Bachelor, but rugby great Bobby Windsor, 66, is desperate to find love after experiencing a turbulent period where he fought depression, cancer and contemplated suicide.

The middle man of the legendary Pontypool front row retired to Puerto Portals, Mallorca, in 2009 and said:”I can sit and look over the balcony at the Mediterranean and swimming pool. I go walking every day, have lots of friends here, the weather is great.

“Life isn’t bad, except I haven’t got anyone to share it with.

“If someone with a good sense of humour wants the same thing as me, come on over and see how we get on. If we’re not made for each other, no harm is done.”

Mr Windsor, originally from Newport, rebuilt his life on the Spanish island after battling prostate cancer, falling into a “deep black hole of depression” and going through a divorce.

The father-of-six lost his first wife Judi to cancer in 1979 and it was his own battle against the disease which contributed to the end of his marriage to second wife Lynne.

He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in December 2005 and underwent surgery to remove his prostate before receiving radiation treatment.

Mr Windsor said: “I was very lucky, but my private life went to hell. I slipped into a deep, black hole of depression and thought about suicide.

“I used to be the life and soul of the party, was really bubbly, but slipped right down there. My children helped pull me out of the depression and said I should go to Spain for a break in 2009 – and I never came back.”

He now fishes, plays golf and has offered to pay for a 60-something woman to visit, so he can take her for meals and get to know her.

“You’re never too old to start a relationship,” he added. It’s a lovely island with superb weather.

“If there’s someone else out there, on their own and wants company, we may think we’re good for each other.

“It’s better than being on your own.”

The only requirement is you like big family Christmases as Mr Windsor has six children, 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

If you are interested in contacting Mr Windsor, e-mail chris.wood@southwales argus.co.uk or call him on 01633 777251 and we will pass your details on to him.
