A CWMBRAN bowling alley, which closed last week after the site was repossessed, will reopen today.

Bowlplex Limited was temporarily closed to the public on March 5 following a disagreement with its landlord Mintblue (Cwmbran) Limited.

But yesterday Mintblue director John Ives said the two parties had renegotiated and sorted out their differences.

He said Bowlplex staff were in the process of moving back on site with a view to reopening the premises.

He added: “We are pleased this is the case, and we are moving forward.”

On Tuesday we reported how Bowlplex chairman, Sean Cooper, said the centre had temporarily closed following what it described as the “unlawful occupation” by Mintblue (Cwmbran) Ltd.

Mr Cooper said representatives from the landlord indicated their support for its Company Vo l u n t a r y Arrangement (CVA) proposal last week.

But Mr Ives said Bowlplex’s proposal was that its rent be reduced to just over half.

He said conditional support was given on a CVA but said the information when presented to them was lacking in detail and they found the deal unacceptable.

Bowlplex Limited was unavailable for comment as the Argus went to press but a notice on its Facebook group Bolwplex Cwmbran stated it would reopen today at 12pm.

The firm moved into the site at Leisure@Cwmbran in October, 2009, and currently employs 28 staff, who remained in employment on full pay while the dispute was sorted out.
