FUNDRAISERS scaled the heights of Newport’s Transporter Bridge to take the plunge in aid of a good cause at the weekend.

Nearly 70 people braved the challenge of the 178-foot abseil on Saturday morning to raise money for the St David’s Foundation.

Jules Y Fenyw got into the St Patrick’s Day spirit, dressing as a leprechaun for the feat, and Susan Peck and Leneasha Lewis dressed up as the Super Mario Brothers.

St David’s fundraiser Sally Rees said: “It was a fab day.

The weather was brilliant until we had to pack up and it rained. We had a young man called Alex, who we have supported in our Unicorn programme after his mother died, who took part, and another man had entered his wife for the abseil as a Christmas present.

“It was really well attended. We also had a couple of angels coming down from the sponsors Office Angels. A lot of friends and family came to support so it was a nice atmosphere.”

The charity is holding another abseil in September and Mrs Rees said many of those who took part on Saturday are keen to take part again.

The next abseil is to take place on September 15. For more information about how you can get involved visit stdavidsfoundation.
