A CWMBRAN woman will star in a national film project which will be shown in theatres across the UK to promote the Olympics coming to London.

Hannah Maloney, 19, will be filmed this weekend performing a dance routine in Cardiff for the “Dancing Parallel” video which will be shown during Dance GB performances in theatres in Cardiff, London and Glasgow this summer to promote London 2012.

Dance GB is an Olympic-inspired partnership between English National Ballet, Scottish Ballet and National Dance Company Wales.

Miss Maloney, who has danced since the age of four, is currently studying to be a professional classical sequence, Latin and ballroom dancer and teacher at Dance World, Newport. She has represented Wales three times in classical sequence dancing and achieved the highest all-girl couple in Wales ranking around 10 years ago.

Miss Maloney got involved in the “Dancing Parallel” project, which aims to encourage young people to explore their city environments through dance, in October last year.

She started working with an instructor and around 20 other dancers in Cardiff putting together a dance sequence and found out around two months ago that she had been chosen as one of 12 to film for the video in the Cardiff area.

She has since raised £806 through a duck race as well as sponsorship and donations from Dance World to fund her expenses and recently returned from a week in London where she met the other dancers involved.

She will now be filmed with the Cardiff group this weekend which will perform its part of the film in the disused National Provisional Bank vault in Cardiff Bay.

She said: "I was quite shocked to be chosen but it is a fantastic opportunity."
