NEWPORT County boss Justin Edinburgh is no longer looking at the teams around his side in the Conference relegation battle because he’s confident the results of others won’t matter.

The Exiles need only six more points from their remaining five fixtures to guarantee survival and Edinburgh insists his side will do just that despite throwing away a 2-0 lead at Kidderminster that they had maintained until the 87th minute, eventually losing 3-2.

“We held our hands up to the fact we could’ve put ourselves out of sight with a win at Kidderminster and we didn’t do that,” he said.

“We were punished for a lack in concentration on Monday, the penalty got them back in it and what we have is some youngsters who will learn from the defeat.

“I knew they’d take it very hard and rightly so, against a team pushing for promotion we dominated for long spells and were value for the win.

“But the performance was a good one. We could have put it (the issue of relegation) out of sight and it added to our frustration about the performance.

"It’s a big learning process, the players will keep themselves up without relying on anyone else, I fully believe that. I am not looking at others, only at us."

Edinburgh revealed he is hoping striker Jake Reid’s first goal for the club is something he can build on.

“Jake’s been patient, he took his chance well and hopefully they will keep coming for him now,” he said.
