THE brother of a reality TV singing sensation and a former soldier who served in cold war Berlin are among those looking for your vote in next month’s local elections in Monmouthshire.

There is a total of 43 seats over 42 wards in the council – but only 37 will be up for grabs as there will be no election in six wards, where only Tory candidates have been nominated.

Party leaders Peter Fox, for the Tories, Jim Higginson for Labour and Phylip Hobson for the Liberal Democrats are all seeking re-election.

Mike Rice, ex-chairman of the Caldicot Chamber of Trade, a former publican and a one-time corporal in the Army who saw service patrolling the Berlin Wall while it was being built the 1960s, is running as an Independent against Cllr Higginson in the Caldicot ward of Severn.
