A FORMER cricket pavilion in Varteg has been given a new lease of life thanks to the volunteers.
The pavilion at Bakery Fields, which is the home of local football club Fairfield United, has had a makeover after housing organisation Bron Afon Community Housing was given permission by Torfaen council to refurbish its interior.
The building had been in a poor state of repair for many years until plasterers, painters and carpenters from Bron Afon set to work to improve it.
Anewkitchen, toilets, water heaters and fuse box were installed, damaged pipe work was repaired, newflooring fitted and the outside canopy fixed.
Fairfield United’s chairman Andrew Price said: “The work is of a very high standard and we will enjoy using the new facilities, which will allow the club to grow and help us to keep close links with the community.”
