SAINSBURY’S Cwmbran is launching a food donation scheme of products that would normally go to waste.
The store is planning to donate bread, fruit and vegetables, to Gwent charities and organisations.
The idea behind the initiative is to cut the amount of products which have reached the end of their display-by date going to landfill, but are still within the use-by date.
“Where this happens we would rather give this food to charities for free than see it go to waste, so we are advocating linking up with a local charity,”
said store manager Dave Ball.
“Very often this can be food charities who house or look after people may have to purchase on a daily basis.”
Representatives of organisations interested in receiving food should call Bev Barrett on 01633 869736.
