A DESPERATE shortage of volunteers is forcing an Abergavenny charity shop to close one day this week.
Manager of the town’s Cancer Research shop Georgina Spicer said she has no option but to shut on Wednesday while she attends a meeting as no-one is available to cover her shift.
The shop, in High Street, has two volunteers helping out at other times this week, but now the 25-year-old is calling on members of the public.
Ms Spicer said: “It’s a little community shop and we need the community to start taking an interest in it. If anyone has a few hours to spare that would be brilliant.”
The shop also launched its vintage section several months ago, but it is now occupying a much smaller part of it as donations have dwindled.
Ms Spicer, who started her work aged 16 for a Hospice of the Valleys charity shop, says the work is very rewarding and the day-to-day routine varies from sourcing stock to window dressing.
Anyone aged 16 and over interested in helping out for a few hours a week should call Ms Spicer on 01873 850414.
