TWO Gwent ex-servicemen are to walk more than 320 miles in seven days to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Stuart Davies, 29, will be making the trek with his brother-in-law, Mark Wallace, 30, both of Cwmfelinfach.

The walk will see them leave their home town for Loughgall in Northern Ireland on June 2.

The pair will ride bicycles up to Holyhead in North Wales before taking a ferry to Dublin.

From there Mr Davies and Mr Wallace, who was a lance corporal with the 1st Battalion Cheshire regiment, will walk to the home of Lianna Cairns, Mr Wallace’s eight-year-old cousin, who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis.

They will be supported by two friends, Marc Thomas, of Aberdare, and Rhys Tittley, of Bedwas.

Mr Davies, now a lorry driver, was a fusilier with the 1st Battalion Royal Welch. He was inspired to take on the challenge by Lianna, who has to have daily physiotherapy and medication.

He said: “Mark and I are always up for a challenge.

She has been a real inspiration.”

Training involves walking around five miles a day.

Mr Davies said: “All this will go towards research and finding a cure for cystic fibrosis. It affects so many people, we just want to play our part.” The men aim to raise £5,000.
