IT IS expected to take two weeks for repairs to be carried out at University of Wales, Newport’s city campus which was damaged by strong winds on Sunday.

The £35 million campus reopened yesterday, two days after metal sheeting and insulation blew off its roof.

A university spokesman said it will take around two weeks for the repairs and replacement materials to be bought in.

She said the university is still investigating the cause of the damage and the cost of the repairs is still unknown.

The high winds caused chaos elsewhere in Gwent.

More than 30 trees were bought down by the gust of winds in the Caerphilly borough.

Staff from Caerphilly council said it responded to dozens of calls on Monday morning including one to a large tree which had come down in the grounds of Pontllanfriath council offices, near Blackwood.

Today is expected to be dry for most of the day, and cloudy with light rain but colder temperatures tomorrow.

The Environment Agency said it has no particular flooding concerns and said the continuous rain in April has started to restore water levels below ground.
