THEbad weather meant a number of events in Gwent were cancelled over the weekend and are being rearranged.

The Hospice of the Valleys hopes to reschedule its Lap the Lake event for May 27.

Its annual fundraiser at Bryn Bach Park, Tredegar, was cancelled on Sunday , because of strong winds and sleet and snow which made the ground slippery.

Around 190 people were lined up to run ten and five-kilometre circuits, with the fundraiser expected to bring in around £10,000, but organisers decided at 8.30am to call it off.

A spokeswoman apologised to anyone who turned up and said that subject to gaining a race licence, it should take place on May 27.

Details at www.hospiceofthevalleys.com The planned Welsh Waterways Festival on the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal at Pontymoile Basin was also cancelled on Saturday.

No definite date has yet been scheduled for that , but it should take place some time in June or July.

A sponsored bikeathon around the Cwmbran area was also cancelled on Sunday.

The choice of three bike rides in aid of the Prostate Cancer Charity will be rescheduled for the summer time.
