A UNIQUE initiative to help residents in an Abergavenny village save money on their fuel bills has been officially launched by Monmouth MP David Davies.

The Bryn and District Fuel Club is a purchasing group that aims to provide the community with a better price for central heating oil.

Set up informally 11 months ago, it is now run via The Bryn Trading Post and has 41 members. Annual membership is just £5.00.

Christian Brown, Vice Chair of The Bryn Trading Post, said: "The fuel club is essentially a syndicate of people who have come together to co-ordinate the ordering of fuel with a supplier.

"The main cost of fuel is in delivery, so everyone synchronises the time they need oil and a single order is placed. The minimum delivery is 500 litres per month.

"To date, the club has saved its members a total of £1,425 and the larger the group, the better the reduction will be."

Mr Davies added: "The more people who join, the bigger the discounts and I hope other residents in the area will be encouraged to take part."
