A REPORT into Chepstow Comprehensive School found standards in English and maths have declined over the past five years.
The report by Estyn inspector Nigel Vaughan found many aspects of the school to be ‘adequate’.
He said pupils’ English and maths at Key Stage Four are belowexpectations and literacy and numeracy skills are underdeveloped.
He also described performance in English and maths at Key Stage Three as ‘weak’.
Areas found to be “good”
include pupils’ wellbeing, their learning environment and care, support and guidance.
The school, which has had a new head teacher, Claire Price, since January, must nowproduce an action plan to tackle issues raised.
Andy Keep, Monmouthshire council’s corporate director for children and young people, said: “The local authority will be working closely with the school to address all the recommendations made by Estyn.”
