PROUD Gwent parents will be cheering on their sons tomorrow night as Only Boys Aloud prepare for the live final of Britain’s Got Talent.

Many of the 135 boys, aged between 14 and 19, will leave Newport today and travel to London for the show.

The choir, formed by the popular Only Men Aloud in May 2010, is now the talk of the nation after the lads wowed the talent show’s famous judges and the public with their performance of Gwahoddiad in the semifinal on Sunday.

The choir is now counting on Welsh support to help them win.

Newport’s Mandy Evans, whose 16-year-old son, Harvey Evans, is a member of Only Boys Aloud, is urging everyone to vote for them.

She said: “On Sunday night we had a party with over 60 people in the house all trying to get through. I got through about 15 times.”

Mrs Evans, 44, has even put a banner outside her house urging people to vote.

She said: “They’re absolutely amazing. They’ve worked so hard and they deserve to win. Come on, get behind them and vote – and not just once.”

Keenan Knight’s mum, Maria Dickinson, has also been busy drumming up support, putting up banners around Risca.

Keenan, 18, who is one of around 30 boys in the Cwmbran practice group, said: “When they announced we were going through we all jumped up and down and it was really noisy. I can’t wait for Saturday, I’m so excited.”

Fifteen-year-old Argus paperboy Liam White, from Varteg, will also be singing in the final with cousin Joe Jones, from Bridgend.

Liam’s dad, Colin White, said the whole family will be watching.

“We’re all very excited.

I’ve got posters in my car and on our front gate,” he said.

Friends Philip Lowman, 16, and Corey Owen, 17, from Six Bells, have known each other since they were three years old and will be on stage together tomorrow night.

Philip’s mum, Kaye Lowman, said: “We’ve got to get behind them because they’re a truly amazing group of boys.”

Blackwood Comprehensive School is also supporting Only Boys Aloud classmates Andrew Heron, 16, and Iwan Evans, 14, who belong to the choir.

Deputy head teacher Cerith Lewis said the two boys have become minor celebrities in the school and that posters have been put up encouraging the whole school to vote.

Britain’s Got Talent is on ITV1 at 7.30pm.
