A CALDICOT band has won the chance to perform at a concert on the day Wales welcomes the Olympic torch.

Rusty Shackle only formed just over two years ago, but in that time, the folk inspired band’s members have gone from being relatively unknown to gigging around the UK most weekends.

Liam Collins, 26, Baz Barwick, 20, Owen Emmanuel, 28, Scott McKeon, 25 and his brother James, 27, saw off stiff competition from five other bands during last week’s live final of the Big Gig competition, at The Globe, Cardiff.

They are now rehearsing for a once in a lifetime performance at the May 25 concert, which features Brit Award winner Emeli Sande and Cardiff band Kids In Glass Houses.

The gig at Coopers Field, in the Welsh capital, comes just days after they return to Devauden Music Festival as Friday’s headline act on May 18.

Rusty Shackle, who describe themselves as a Monmouthshire band and a mix of breathless folk, blues, indie, skiffle, bluegrass and punk, have already headlined the Great British Folk Festival and won the chance to play before a Manchester City game earlier this year.

Mr Collins, who supports the team on the verge of Premier League victory, said of the Cardiff gig: “15,000 people will be going there it’s going to be phenomenal.”
