CAMPAIGNERS have congratulated Paul Flynn for backing a parliamentary motion that would allow members of the public to have their MPs removed before an election.

The Newport West MP put his name to an Early Day Motion backing the Recall of Elected Representatives Bill which would permit voters to recall their elected representatives if a majority has lost confidence in them, for whatever reason.

Mr Flynn said: "People should have the right to be able to hold their elected representatives to account in the years in between elections and not just at election time."

"This bill, if enacted, will go a long way towards addressing people’s disillusionment with politics."

Director of Unlock Democracy Peter Facey congratulated Mr Flynn on backing the bill: “Good MPs have nothing to fear from this proposed law, but those who do things like cheat on their expenses or back deeply unpopular decisions will.”
