CAERLEON Festival has unveiled its answer to the Bayeux tapestry as it celebrates its 10th year.

Festival organisers have unveiled a commemorative quilt at the Snug Restaurant, High Street, Caerleon, featuring the range of sculptures produced during the lifetime of the festival.

The quilt is decorated with 10 panels and reflects Caerleon's Roman history, including a Roman ship centrepeice a legionary banner.

It has been produced by a local team led by Christabel Gilbert, who said the idea was conceived at the end of 2011.

Festival chairman Tim Davidson said: “This is a magnificent piece of work created in a very short time by a team of very talented volunteers. It’s extraordinarily creative, skilfully executed and inspirational."

The Festival Committee is looking for a permanent home for the quilt - if you can help email editor@caerleon-arts.org or ring 01633 422249.

Caerleon Festival takes place between July 6 and July 15.
