YOUR South Wales Argus has been shortlisted for two prestigious national awards.

Our digital journalism has been recognised with two nominations in the Online Media Awards, which are open to all news-related websites in the UK.

Our website is shortlisted for the Best Local/Regional News Site award.

The Argus will be battling against 10 other websites for the award, including the Belfast Telegraph, the Liverpool Echo and the Western Mail.

And our live online coverage of the Nikitta Grender murder trial, which saw Argus reporters using Twitter to cover a court case for the first time, has been nominated for the Best Use of Social Media Award.

We are the only regional newspaper shortlisted for the award. Others among the seven nominations include The Guardian and The Times.

South Wales Argus editor Kevin Ward said: “We are delighted to be shortlisted for these UK-wide awards.

“We now deliver news, sport and information to our readers when and how they want it, whether that is via the traditional newspaper or on PCs, mobiles, tablets or social media.

“Our use of Twitter to cover the dreadful Nikitta Grender murder trial was ground-breaking and I am particularly pleased with the nomination in the social media category.

“The nominations are a tribute to our Digital Editor Martin Wade and to the entire newsroom.”

The award winners will be revealed at a glittering ceremony at the Emirates Stadium, home of Arsenal FC, on June 21.
