A MAN will be sentenced after admitting handling parts of mountain bikes stolen from around Gwent.

Edward Hornsey, 21, appeared at Newport Crown Court, where he admitted two charges of handling stolen goods.

Prosecutor Julian Greenwood said that a total worth of parts in his possession have not yet been calculated, but they were a "very substantial quantity of high value parts".

Mr Greenwood said that mountain bikes had been stolen from two addresses, with appeals for these circulated in the press.

He said that Hornsey was caught after parts appeared for sale on internet site eBay and one of the victims spotted what he believed was a part from his bike.

Parts were then found in Hornsey's car and garden after a search and he was arrested.

He was charged with four counts of handling stolen goods, that he received parts from high value mountain bikes.

Hornsey, of Ball Road, Llanrumney, Cardiff, admitted two of these charges, dating between February 17 2010 to October 13 2011 and another charge between April 29 2011 and October 13 2011.

However, he denied the other two, alleged to have occurred between March 15 2010 to October 13 2011 and between August 23 2011 and October 13 2011.

Prosecutor Julian Greenwood said it is up to Judge Rhys Rowlands to decide whether the two not guilty charges lie on the file when Hornsey is sentenced on June 25.
