A GWENT man is playing a golf tournament with friends to give something back to a charity that has helped his mum.
Jonathan Jones, 30, and friends Stephen Evans, Dan Howls and Berwyn Price, all 31, are playing nine holes on nine different Welsh courses in one day to raise funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The June 29 challenge was devised after Mr Jones’ mum, Alida, recently became immobilised by the disease’s symptoms.
She attends the charity’s Newport and Stow Hill support group, where she socialises with around 30 other patients.
MS is a disease of the central nervous system, resulting in loss of balance, muscle control, vision and balance.
Mr Jones says his mum, who has used a wheelchair for the past three years, enjoys her time with the group every other Friday.
He said: “It gives her a better outlook and a chance to air her feelings to people with MS.”
The Blackwood men will play the tournament between the hours of 4.30am and 10pm at six golf clubs – Bryn Meadows, Bargoed, Castle Heights, Mountain Lakes, Ridgeway, Blackwood and Oakdale. They have practised playing 36 holes, finding it extremely challenging, and Mr Jones said they are now hoping for good weather.
