A 64-YEAR-OLD woman was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a teenager was injured in a road accident yesterday.
The 16-year-old was last night stable at the Royal Gwent Hospital after the incident in Shakespeare Drive, Gaer, Newport.
Police received a call at 4.15pm following the collision between a car and a bicycle that the teenager was riding.
The 64-year-old driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol and driving with undue care and attention.
Witnesses Kerry and Michael Seal said they had left their home in Maughan Close when they saw the teenager riding down Morton Way towards Shakespeare Crescent.
Mrs Seal called for an ambulance while her husband put the teenager into the recovery position.
She said he was not breathing at first but then began shallow breathing.
Mrs Seal said: “We’re just in shock, I hope he will be all right. The noise was horrible and I keep hearing it.”
