A GWENT teacher is accused of making sexual remarks to pupils and kissing a 14-year-old student.

The teacher appeared at a General Teaching Council for Wales professional conduct committee at The Parc Hotel in Cardiff yesterday.

It is alleged that between September 2004 and January 2005, the teacher made remarks to pupils of a sexual and/or inappropriate nature while he was a teacher at a secondary school.

The teaching standards body also alleges he had an inappropriate relationship with a female pupil around March 2004 while he was a teacher at another secondary school in Torfaen.

Both allegations are denied.

Presenting the case, Martin Jones said seven female pupils in Year 11 made complaints to teachers about comments allegedly made by the teacher in the classroom.

The hearing was told comments included: “Be honest, wouldn’t you like me to bend you over the desk?”; “you’re Pupil O’s sister, I would like to spread her legs.” and “speed equals a good night out”.

Colin Adkins, representing the teacher, said some of the pupils who had made the complaints were not taught by the teacher and so their comments were hearsay.

He also said that the same spelling mistake was made on two of the pupils’ statements and that there was an opportunity for the pupils to confer about their statements.
