A 22-year-old father, who started up his own business just three weeks ago, has been hit by a spate of thefts.

David Morgan from Brynmawr, started up his business D M Tyres on the Blaenant industrial estate at the end of May.

Father of a one-year-old daughter, Mr Morgan was supported financially by his family and he decided to strike out on his own and start up his own tyre business.

To alert people to his business Mr Morgan erected a sign advertising his business.

The sign consisted of two large Land Rover car tyres, one stacked up right against one lying flat to the ground on which the printed sign was mounted.

But over the Tuesday and Wednesday of Jubilee bank holiday, Mr Morgan had two of the signs, which are four foot tall by three feet wide and filled with concrete, taken from outside his store.

Mr Morgan, who works on average for 10 hours a day six days a week, said: "The first time it was taken I sort of just wrote it off as kids pratting around, I thought I might find it again, but when the second one went a day later I was pretty angry.

"They take some some shifting it takes three of us to move them and there was no sign of them being dragged away.

"It cost me about £20 a time to get the sings printed and then the Land Rover tyres new are about £160 each so if another one goes missing it’s getting too expensive for me to replace them so it would be great if I could get them back."

A spokesman for Gwent Police, said: "We received a call at approximately 2.10 PM on June 6 reporting that a sign had been stolen from outside DM Tyres, on the Blaenant Industrial Estate.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact the police."
