AN ABERGAVENNY coach driver admitted causing the death of a father of two in a motorway crash by dangerous driving.

Daniel Parr, 24, of Penallt Estate, Llanelly Hill, pleaded guilty at a hearing last week to causing the death of Birmingham dad Raymond Vaughan, 30, during a crash on the M5 in Gloucestershire. He was released on bail until he is sentenced at Gloucester Crown Court next month at a date yet to be fixed.

The court heard Parr was driving a Megabus coach from Cardiff to Leeds in foggy conditions on December 12, 2010, when the coach and four other vehicles were involved in a pile-up on the M5 northbound near Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire.

As a result of the crash a lorry went through the central reservation and collided with engineer Mr Vaughan, who was travelling south, killing him.

Three of the coach passengers were taken to Worcester Royal Infirmary with minor injuries.

Judge William Hart warned Parr a custodial sentence was “almost inevitable”, but said he would be given credit for his guilty plea.

He added it would be of considerable relief to Mr Vaughan’s family that Parr had nowadmitted the offence after previously denying the charge.
