A CWMBRAN mum is feeling a little light headed after having her hair shared off to raise money for a local hospice.

Sarah Evans, 37, opted for the extreme hair cut as she wanted to raise funds for St David's Foundation Hospice Care.

She had her hair cut at the beauty salon within the charity's new £3 million hospice centre in Malpas.

The Torfaen social care and housing worker wanted to support the charity which has been helping to care for her 58-year-old mum Cheryl Reed.

Ms Reed is currently battling cancer and is being supported by the charity's day hospice at County Hospital in Panteg.

She was treated for breast cancer in 2001, but the cancer has now spread to her liver.

Mrs Evans described her mum as a "fighter" and said she is being helped in her fight by the "wonderful staff" at St David's.

She said: "I wanted to give something back to St David’s and as I am not one for sponsored runs or charity bike rides I thought about doing something different and decided a head shave would be the answer.

"I was a little nervous at the prospect of having all my hair cut off after a lifetime having it long but I’m glad that I went through with it and with the amount of money that has been raised."

She said her children Curtis, 19, and Shannon, 16, and husband David were very supportive and were slowly coming to terms with her new look.

Mrs Evans has already raised £1,000 To add to this, see justgiving.com/sarah-evans18
