A TEAM of teenage entrepreneurs from a Valleys school were named Wales Best Company in a prestigious business competition thanks to their unique mobile phone charger device.

A team of 17 Year 10 students from Blackwood Comprehensive were given the title at the Welsh Young Enterprise Innovation Awards in Cardiff for their company Nucleus, which sells the Hugga Plug.

The team will now compete in the UK final of the HSBC Young Enterprise Innovation Awards in London at the beginning of July.

The Hugga Plug consists of a shelf to put a mobile phone on while it charges, but also allows the lead from the charger to be wrapped around the device meaning that no wires are left trailing.

The team worked with a business mentor and contacted other organisations to help them with their product development and sales.

Owen Lewis, managing director of Nucleus, said: “The whole experience of running our own business has been amazing. We are honoured to be representing our country with our unique Hugga Plug. It hasn’t quite sunk in yet.”

Head teacher, Ravi Pawar, said: “I am proud of the students and staff for this wonderful achievement. I wish them the very best of luck in the grand final in London.”
