CHILDREN from Newport took part in a drumathon to raise money for deaf and blind people.

Children from Monnow Primary School in Bettws and Rogerstone Scout Band and volunteers from the Jerome Gatehouse Collection Trust were taught drumming skills by a tutor at the Life Music Foundation in Newport.

The three-hour fundraiser raised cash for Sense, which supports and campaigns for children and adults who are deaf and blind.

Around 15 people took part.

Anne Gatehouse, life trustee of the Jerome Gatehouse Collection Trust which organised the event, said it was hoped the event can be organised on a bigger scale next year.

She thanked everyone who participated, adding: "They did a great job."
