JURORS in a murder trial watched footage of the accused as he admitted killing a Cwmbran TV actor.

Barry Bowyer, 38, from Croesyceiliog confessed in a police interview to breaking into Gary Suller’s home in Harold Street, Pontnewydd, on September 6 last year.

Jurors at Cardiff Crown Court watched the taped interview from September 8, in which Bowyer described climbing into Mr Suller’s back garden after checking that he was not home.

He put the chain on the front door and started to bag DVDs with the intention of selling them.

He heard someone trying the front door and realised that they were coming around the back of the property.

Upon seeing Mr Suller, he threw a chair at him.

Bowyer said: “I punched and kicked him to make sure he stayed down.”

He described how he used a cable to tie Mr Suller’s hands behind his back and tied his ankles together to prevent him raising the alarm while he was out selling the stolen goods.

Bowyer went through Mr Suller’s pockets, taking £8 and his car keys, and then left.

The court heard it was a disturbed burglary.

Bowyer said when he left, Mr Suller was still breathing.

He said he returned to the street about three hours later to make sure that Mr Suller was OK, saw the police cars and realised that something had gone wrong, so he drove off.

Bowyer has admitted buglary and manslaughter, but denies murder.
