Lewys Edwards, eight, was the Welsh winner of a UK-wide competition for young inventors, for his ingenious ‘Star Boots’ football boots – goalscoring gadget boots which would enable the wearer to undertake fast manoeuvres, tasty tackles and score goals aplenty.

The football-mad High Cross Primary pupil took the regional award of the Cracking Ideas competition, which is run by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, Intellectual Property Office, and headed by Ardman animations, the creators of Wallace and Gromit.
