MURDER victim Gary Suller was an actor who had appeared in a string of popular television shows and was described as “an angel and a gentleman”, writes ALISON SANDERS.

The 45-year-old had appeared in programmes such as Casualty, Sherlock and Doctor Who.

He appeared as a patient in Casualty and was an extra in the 2009 Christmas episode of Doctor Who.

He was also involved in the Cwmbran-based media firm Creative Academi and would act, direct and produce in the films it made.

Mr Suller, who was a father to two daughters, also appeared in the Rhys Ifans film Mr Nice – a biopic about the infamous Welsh drug dealer Howard Marks – and in the one-off BBC Two drama Framed.

Other work included directing an educational film about the consequences of committing crime that featured Newport rap group Goldie Lookin’ Chain.

Onthe day hewas killed,Mr Suller was said to be in a good mood after learning that he had landed a speaking role in the television show The Indian Doctor.

Butaway fromhis television work, Mr Suller had become involved with prostituteKatie Gilmore. The trial heard that Mr Suller, who had a history in sales, had been made redundant from his previous job and had started updating the websites for massage parlours/ brothels in Newport.

Danielle Timmins, who runs a brothel in Newport, told the trial that Mr Suller was a “gentleman and an angel” and met him almost five years ago after he designed a website for her brothel.

Neighbour Diane Green said Mr Suller was besotted with Ms Gilmore and said women often took advantage of him. She said a previous girlfriend had stolen his bank card and emptied his account.

His friend Paula Petit said he was “anxious” and “frightened”

in the weeks before his death and had extra security put in his home, including window alarms, and always carried a personal attack alarm.

Wendy Morgan, Mr Suller’s mother, said: “My family and I are proud of the person Gary was. He was kind and trusting, if somewhat naive. He saw the good in everyone and would go out of his way to help anyone. The past months have been very emotional for us all, in particular the last two weeks when we have had to sit in court and hear Gary’s character maligned.

“We have now seen justice done and are grateful to all those who have been involved in this case.

“We now want to move on with our lives but Gary will be in our hearts forever.”
