FAMILY and friends said their final goodbyes to Valleys actor and singer Brian Hibbard today.

The Flying Pickets singer died on June 18 aged 65 after suffering from prostate cancer.

Mr Hibbard, who was born in Ebbw Vale, shot to fame in 1983 with the number-one hit Only You as the lead vocalist of the original Flying Pickets.

A memorial celebration was held the Valley Kids Soar Centre in Penygraig, Rhondda, today before a service at Coychurch Crematorium in Bridgend.

After leaving the Flying Pickets in 1985, Mr Hibbard went into acting and appeared as garage mechanic Doug Murray in Coronation Street, Bobby-John Downs in Emmerdale and more recently as Henry Mason in Eastenders.

He also appeared in Twin Town and in the pantomimes at Newport's The Riverfront for four years between 2006 and 2009.

Mr Hibbard's interest in politics saw him support the then independent Assembly Member Trish Law and he also acted as an election agent for Blaenau Gwent independent Assembly Member candidate Jayne Sullivan in the last election.
