A BODY was found in the Usk in Newport this afternoon following reports that a man had fallen into the water.
Police said the body was believed to have been that of the man that fell.
Emergency services were called to the George Street Bridge this morning after calls at around 10am reporting a man had fallen from the bridge.
The fire service earlier said that it had stood down its crews at around 12.30pm, but at 4.25pm police said emergency services were recovering a body.
The body was found a short distance downstream from the bridge, police said.
A Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA) inshore rescue boat and a police helicopter team were among those taking part in the search.
Swansea Coastguard earlier said they believed the individual they were looking for was an 18-year-old man.
The fire service sent crews from Malpas, Maindee and Barry with two fire engines, a rescue tender, the fire service’ marine unit and line rescue units.
Anyone who might have information or saw the incident should call Gwent Police on 101.
