A TREVETHIN man is doing all that he can for charity after beating cancer.

Fredrick Cook, 56, has never done charity work before and explained that like many people he had a "it will never happen to me" attitude.

Then, about six years ago, on a visit to the doctors regarding a rash, the doctor inquired about a lump he could see in Mr Cook's groin.

He was sent straight to hospital to have the lump surgically removed and received radiotherapy.

While waiting to be given the all clear, he has spent the last six years fundraising for different charities.

He said: "Before I had cancer I was not into charity fundraising, but since I decided to make a difference."

Without Macmillan I would not be here today."He holds bucket collections outside Tesco stores, his most recent one raised £800 for Macmillan.

He also holds car boots with his brother in law, Giovanni Gileone, on the weekends where they sell donated items and gives the money to charity.

He donated £300 to the Pontypool Salvation Army, which bought a new pool table for service users to play on.

People wanting to donate items for him to sell for charity are welcome to contact him on 07934 857 547 and charities can get in touch if they would like him to fundraise for them.
