ACTORS, musicians, sports stars and even a Hollywood actor will arrive in Newport on Saturday for a star-studded charity dinner at the Celtic Manor.

The Gareth Thomas Foundation dinner will raise money to provide young people with access to music and sport.

There are still a few tickets available for the charity dinner which already has Oscar-nominated Mickey Rourke, world champion boxer Joe Calzaghe and rugby legends Shane and Martyn Williams on its guest list. DJ Dane Bowers will perform, as well as some bands and singers from the foundation.

Gareth ‘Alfie’ Thomas told the Argus: “As a sportsman you rely on public support and when you reach the peak when you have a voice that can be heard, it’s important to give back to the people who are supporting you.”

He thanked the guests who have agreed to attend, particularly Mickey Rourke who he said he has “a really good friendship”

with. Mr Thomas also thanked those members of the public who have already bought tickets and said people can expect “an amazing night full of fun and entertainment”.

He said: “When you go to the shop in Newport it’s amazing to see kids coming in, picking up an instrument and seeing them find a connection with it.

“To see it working makes it all worthwhile. I want it to get to other towns and cities of Wales and have the foundation working there and move it to London and England.” Tickets cost £100 each and are available from alfiecharitynight.co.uk or by calling Daniel O’Connell on 01633 246179.
