A BRYNMAWR off-licence has had its licence reviewed by Blaenau Gwent council.
The shop, known as Beacon Stores, was reviewed following incidents of under-age sales of alcohol.
At a licensing sub-committee meeting on July 5, an application was presented by the council’s head of trading standards which was supported by representations from Gwent Police. The application criticised the lack of precautions taken by the shop to avoid instances of under-age sales and of Jyotika Patel, who held the premises supervisor role.
It referred to a previous prosecution, a proxy-sale of alcohol, and to a list of complaints about the shop.
In response, Ms Patel said she had improved training at her premises.
The sub-committee decided the offlicence must retain all of its CCTV footage for 28 days and make this available to police. Ms Patel is to be removed as premises supervisor.
Cllr Keith Hayden, executive member for environment and community safety, said: “Licence reviews such as this are not entered into lightly, but reserved for problem premises, where other efforts have failed to achieve improvement.”
