A BLACKWOOD teenager is taking the plunge today to raise funds for people affected by cancer.
Emily Evans, 18, is doing a skydive for Cancer Research Wales, after her family was touched by the disease.
In 2000, her grandmother Gwenda Evans died from cervical cancer aged 64.
Her other grandmother Florence Gregory, 62, had a double masectomy ten years ago after being diagnosed with breast cancer, while her best friend’s father was recently given the devastating news he has terminal cancer.
In addition, her mother Nicola, 42 has also had a scare, which made Ms Evans think she must try and help others.
The skydive, in Swansea, was due to take place last week but was postponed due to bad weather, so the fundraiser is hoping for blue skies for tomorrow’s jump.
She said: “Iamexcited as I have always wanted to do a skydive and with everything happening around me I thought it was a great opportunity to raise money for a good cause.”
The daredevil teenager has already reached her target of £500 for the charity.
Her grandmother Florence said: “I think it’s absolutely brilliant.
She’s a great kid.”
Ms Evans will add to the total by auctioning off two rugby balls and match tickets donated by the Llanelli Scarlets next week.
