THE population of Wales has topped three million, figures from the latest census have shown.
Officials say the number of people living in the principality is up 5% on a decade ago - the biggest growth in any ten year period since 1921.
About 90% of the boom has been attributed to migration - including people moving to Wales from elsewhere in the UK.
Cardiff remains the biggest local authority with a population of 346,100 - an increase of 11.6%.
All of 22 council areas saw their populations increase - with the exception of Blaenau Gwent, which dropped by 0.3%.
