COLEG Gwent has shown itself to be among the best colleges in Wales, according to a recent inspection.

Estyn, the Welsh education and training inspectorate, judged the college’s current performance as at least Good in every aspect.

It was judged as at least Good in nine out of ten aspects of its performance and as Excellent in the other.

The inspection highlighted strengths including good outcomes for A-Levels, vocational programmes, and the Welsh Baccalaureate.

The fact that learners from areas of high deprivation perform as well as others, they feel safe and well cared for, and are provided with good guidance and support are also highlighted as key.

Estyn inspectors said: “The college compares well with other colleges in Wales when ranked on their success rates for all courses.”

Jim Bennett, the principal and chief executive of Coleg Gwent, said: “This is a fantastic outcome for the college. It demonstrates the hard work all staff in the college put in to give our students a really good experience, supporting them to gain high success rates in their qualifications.

“The report also shows we know what we need to do to improve further, and that’s what we will do.”
